A few frames from the PA State Swimming Championships.

Sunday, March 8, 2009

I should introduce you to Spencer Myers of Selinsgrove. He was the reason that I had to stay at the state wrestling championships late every night. At first I didn't like the idea but after I got to know Spencer and I learned how much covering him and the state title meant to him I through away my selfishness and had fun covering him. The last day I got to see him at his highest and lowest moment. In his match for state title he suffered a knee injury and lost to a kid he could of easily beaten, Spencer deserved to win, in my book he won the state title.

It's state wrestling time again, here is a few of my favorite frames from the first two days. Only one more to go!!!

I had to step back a little for this one. I just thought is was a surreal scene. How do you run into the back of a stationary tractor trailer that is 70 some feet away from the road?

I got to play with pills this morning, and the strobe kit that was hidden in a back room.

Meet Sierra she suffers from brittle bones disease, while shooting this little piece for our health section, I realized that there is more of a story to tell. The family is not financial sound and need help to take of her, so I'm going back to spend some days with them so more will come of this then the 15 minutes that I got to spend with them today.

It's been a long time since my last post. However, I'll start posting more once I get settled in my new surrondings, but here are some shots when Arlen came to town today.

Thursday, August 21, 2008

This was by far the scariest and most real situation that I was placed in so far as a journalist. I was out feature hunting and found a man digging in his garden. After about 5 minutes with him without any warning or signs he collapsed to the ground due to a heart attack. While waiting for the paramedics to show up I felt completly helpless while he was laying on the ground, there was nothing I could for him except wait for help. However he is fine now, and put life into a different perspective for me.

This is a little start of a story that I'm going to be working on about the Diakon Youth Services Wilderness Center, outside of Boiling Springs, PA. It's a place that teaches troubled youth that were sent there through a court order,(instead of going to juvenile hall) life skills such as carpentry, horticulture and culinary arts. However, some of the that kids are sent take part in a wilderness program were they go off into the woods for 30 days with a instructor and live off the land, then left alone for 2 days.( I can't wait for that to happen, great photos to take place) Right now, the place is starting to get permission from the judges and parents to have the kids identified, so there will be more to come instead of two cheesy shots of the instructors.
